Gavin Yates has been appointed as Connect's new Executive Director, as outgoing Executive Director Patrick McGlinchey moves on to work for an international animal welfare charity.
We're delighted to welcome Gavin to the Connect team! Gavin is an experienced third sector leader and journalist with a background in politics and policy. He started his career with the BBC in local radio before working on television shows such as Newsnight before joining the launch team of BBC News Online. After moving to Scotland, Gavin worked in digital media before before stints in government, the Third Sector and political communication. He joins Connect after working with the learning disability charity, Enable.
Living in Fife, Gavin is the dad of three teenage boys including a set of twins. Gavin said: 'I’m delighted to be joining Connect and continuing the important work it carries out on behalf of Parent Councils and parent groups across the whole of Scotland. Education policy is at an interesting juncture and the voices of parents need to be listened to if we are to get the high quality education that every child deserves.'
