The Scottish Government has been consulting on some sections of the guidance on the Act which will shortly incorporate the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child into Scottish legislation (the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (Incorporation)(Scotland) Act which comes into force in July).
Connect has now submitted its response to the consultation, calling for parents and carers to be strongly featured in all aspects of the guidance, as parents are the advocates and champions of their child's rights.
Gavin Yates, Executive Director of Connect said:
'Much more must be done to ensure that parent and their children are aware of their rights and have their rights upheld. Our consultation submission is clear: parents must be able to support their child's rights, and advocate for their child. Parents and carers must be embedded in the guidance, not mentioned as an optional extra'.
