You can read Connect's response to the Scottish Government's consultation on the remit and possible content for the proposed Bill which is intended to support people with learning disabilities and neurodivergent people across all walks of Scottish society.
The Connect response
- calls for the urgent publication of guidance on the use of restraint and seclusion (which will not be part of the this Bill but is referenced)
- calls for more progress on the Additional Support for Learning Review Action Plan to enable this to be reported to parents, carers and families (also referenced)
- asks about the co-ordination with, or recognition of, the existing data collection for additional support needs. How will the collection of data about identified needs for National Improvement Framework reporting sit with that already gathered by schools and local authorities?
- agrees with local strategic frameworks and requirements
- agrees that training for professionals should be compulsory but asks that it includes training about additional support needs in the context of Children's Rights and the Parental Involvement Act
- asks that information about why data is being collected is shared with parents, carers and young people.
