Additional Support for Learning Tools and Resources

Need some guidance with your child's additional support for learning journey? Have a look at these resources:

  • Connect's ASL: An Introduction to Jargon and Acronyms explains many of the terms used in Scottish education - there is a lot of jargon which can be hard to navigate.
  • Connect's Engaging Parents and Supporting Young People model for discussions between families and the school will help ensure clear communication and positive progress. Created in response to what parents told us they are looking for when discussing their child and possible support needs with the school or early learning centre, this diagram can be shared in advance with the school as a way of setting out clearly what you are looking for from those discussions! Staff will find it helpful as a basis and a framework upon which to hold conversations which can sometimes be upsetting for families.
  • School exclusion information from Enquire covers formal exclusions here and unlawful exclusions here.  The most important point to note is that exclusion must not be used as a tool to manage children's additional support needs.
