The long-awaited response from the Scottish Government to the extensive Review of Qualifications and Assessment has now been published.
Connect worked with Professor Louise Hayward to gather the views of diverse parents and carers, to ensure parental voices were heard. You can read more about the Review here.
Gavin Yates, Executive Director of Connect, said:
'Our work with parents and carers on the Hayward Review showed that, although parents have different views on qualifications and exams, they do want a system that is fair and works for all young people.
‘We recognise that the desire in today’s statement to widen the curriculum and qualifications to reflect young people's interests and strengths. However, we were hopeful that the Government’s response would have included more of Professor Hayward’s vision of substantive reform. There needs to be greater urgency in creating the learning opportunities that meet all young people's needs and strengths. A child’s time at school is finite. With every delay, more young people are unable to fulfil their potential when too often the school curricular offer is too narrow.'
