Connect is hosting two online sessions with Child Poverty Action Group in Scotland (CPAG) on 14 May at 2pm or 8pm. We’d like to invite parents and parent groups to join us to discuss options and resources for families on low and reduced incomes and where support may be found in the current situation.
Children and young people’s access to education and resources has changed beyond recognition in the current situation. Many family incomes are being reduced at a time when parents are under pressure to pay for extra food and bills because children are at home all the time. Access to breakfast clubs and school meals is no longer possible.
Parents are also expected to help children do school work at home. Our parent survey shows that many families are struggling with the basics and also with school work, often because they do not have the equipment or internet access that schools expect. The hidden costs of online learning are not affordable for many families.
Child Poverty Action Group in Scotland’s (CPAG) Cost of the School Day project highlighted that while education is free, there are a lot of hidden costs for families. The CPAG team worked with schools, communities and local authorities to look at ways to reduce inequalities for low income families. After you register, we will send you a link to join the session.
