What is the General Teaching Council for Scotland?

The General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) is the world's first independent self-regulatory body for teachers. Its remit is extensive and includes maintaining a register of teachers, setting professional standards, investigating when those standards may not have been maintained, managing the scheme for recording individual teachers' professional development, accrediting university degrees and more.
