Computer Gaming

  • Young Minds: this website suggests ways in which parents can begin discussions and support their young people to manage their computer gaming. Computer gaming is part of many young people's lives. But parents sometimes are concerned that it is taking over their young person's life. What can be done?

Gambling

  • Fast Forward's Gambling Education Hub:  Gambling is a largely hidden behaviour and addiction amongst some children and young people aged 14 to 25, affecting up to 50,000 young people in the UK. It is important for parents and families to discuss gambling with their children/young people as a form of risk-taking behaviour on a par with drinking alcohol and drug use. For help with these conversations, have a look at FastForward's Gambling Education toolkit here. Gambling in this age group is often invisible - bets amongst friends, computer gaming and online gambling are all hidden from view and can lead to serious addition problems.
  • ITV's website: this  includes a checklist of what to look out for in gambling-related behaviours - you'll see the similarities with all addictive behaviours.
