Subject Choices in the Senior Phase
The Scottish Parliament's Education and Skills Committee is researching subject choices in the Senior Phase to see if there has been a narrowing of options under Curriculum for Excellence.
Our parent survey findings suggest similar issues exist - a shortage of certain subject teachers, not enough pupils choosing a course to run it - as existed in our survey a few years ago on subject choices.
You can read our report to the Committee here.
The Royal Society of Edinburgh has also made a submission to the Committee. The report is here. The RSE fears the reduction of subjects to six in S4 has impacted negatively on certain subjects, therefore narrowing young people's future options. This view is shared here by the Learned Societies Group which fears STEM subjects and possible STEM careers have been badly impacted.
