COVID-19 Guidance for Schools Updated

2nd February 2022

On 1 February the Scottish Government updated its COVID-19 guidance on reducing risks in schools. This relaxes some of the measures that were put in place in December:

  • Children and young people no longer need to stick to groupings/bubbles indoors, though schools should continue to avoid assemblies and other large gatherings where they can.
  • Parents/carers may visit school premises when agreed with the school, related to the wellbeing, progress and behaviour of children.
  • Parents/carers may spectate at outdoor school events, if all activity is consistent with relevant Scottish Government guidance on health, physical distancing, and hygiene.
  • Parent Councils and PTAs may meet on school premises when it is necessary for the smooth functioning of these activities, though virtual meetings should be the default if this is possible.
  • Limits on school trips are removed as children/young people no longer need to maintain their bubbles.

Other measures such as facemasks worn in schools, distancing between adults, regular lateral flow testing, regular hand washing, and self-isolation if individuals test positive or show symptoms remain in place.
