Connect's Digital Survey Report

11th February 2021

In winter 2020, we ran a short parent/carer survey on digital access and the use of digital devices in school and to support learning.

We've collated the findings into this PowerPoint report.  We've also called for several actions to address digital exclusion:

  • Access to digital devices and reliable, affordable broadband for all young people and their families
  • Ongoing training and advice for all parents and carers so they can support their children’s online learning
  • Ongoing professional learning for all educators to support their ability to deliver digital learning
  • School staff to receive training and information about digital tools and equipment to support the learning of those with additional needs – for many, this is the way forward for an inclusive education
  • Those with additional support needs should be able to use appropriate digital devices and tools to progress their learning
  • Those who provide national digital learning opportunities must recognise that many families use smart phones or tablets, rather than desktop computers or laptops; content must be adjusted accordingly
  • The position regarding parental access to GLOW and Microsoft Teams to help their child to access digital learning to be clarified, resolved and made consistent across the country
  • The consistent and ongoing development of children and young people’s digital skills, including online safety and wellbeing.
