Spooktacular Halloween: Redwell Primary School Parent Council, Clackmannanshire

'In 2021, when schools were slowly returning after COVID but restrictions meant that parents couldn't be in the building, we really wanted to create something that would allow children to get together, let parents feel part of the school community again and not cost an arm and a leg.  Hallowe'en was our fist big holiday after returning so we decided to utilise the amazing outdoor space that Redwell has and host a Halloween scavenger hunt. Parents and children were able to wear costumes, trick or treat and spend time together, all while following the COVID guidelines. We kept costs low, knowing that a lot of our families were struggling with post-pandemic cost of living.  We invited kids from all over the county to attend as we knew other schools wouldn't have the same opportunity as we did. Our Parent Council, parent volunteers and school staff were involved. We are incredibly lucky at Redwell to have such a supportive senior leadership team. The sense of community and togetherness that the event created was fantastic. We had all been separate and isolated for so long, the event allowed for families to spend time together, engage with the school again and really reinforced a sense of community. We have continued to host our outdoor event and it hsd evolved as restrictions eased. We have kept the cost down and this year we were able to provide an event that had no charge.  It also inspired us to host other outdoor events, such as our summer fete which is now our biggest source of fundraising every year!'
