A representative of a secondary school Parent Council describes a positive experience in taking part in the recruitment of a deputy headteacher for the school.
'I am a member of our school's Parent & Carer Council (PCC). I was given the opportunity to attend a Recruitment Training session provided by a Quality Improvement Education Officer. I found this online session extremely enlightening and informative. I was extremely lucky to be given the chance to put this training into practice very quickly after the training as our school was recruiting for a new Deputy Headteacher. The interview panel requires a parent representative and I was selected to be involved.'
'I helped to review the applications and was involved in both the Long Leet (list) and Short Leet interviews. The school's headteacher, the head from another school and both current Deputy Headteachers were also involved. I have found the process fascinating. It has really opened my eyes to what happens behind closed doors. I have spent more time in the school, got to know our Headteacher better and learnt so much about the education system my children are currently in. It has been really nice to have the chance to get to know the Senior Leadership Team in our school. I have really enjoyed every minute of the experience. It’s really been insightful. Wish I had done it sooner! I would happily volunteer for this again in the future. It has made me want to get more involved in the school and see how else I could help support the work they do in my capacity as a parent and as a member of the PCC.'
