Morag Treanor's Presentation to the National Parental Engagement Network

Morag Treanor, Professor of Child and Family Inequalities at Heriot-Watt University, delivered this powerful presentation at the inaugural meeting of the National Parental Engagement Network on 2 May 2019.

Morag challenges so many false perceptions about the attitudes and behaviours towards education of children and parents who live in poverty. Children from poorer backgrounds like school better than those from better off backgrounds; they truant less than more affluent children; they try hard at school; parents in poorer families have less confidence in the language and culture of schools.
