Why do we have to hold an Annual General Meeting?

Q:

Is an AGM really necessary?

A:

The Parental Involvement Act states that Parent Councils should report to the Parent Forum at least once a year and this should really be at the AGM. It is good practice for all groups - PCs, PTAs and other clubs - to hold an AGM to report back to the members on its activities.  The members have this opportunity to hold the group to account for its actions and activities.  The Chair should highlight successes, thank those who have helped the group throughout the year and indicate what is planned for the coming year.  At the AGM it is extremely important that the Treasurer presents the annual accounts and reports on any funds raised and how these have been/will be spent.
