Does a member of the PC/PTA have to be present in the hall during after-school club sessions?

Q:

My PTA runs an after-school football club which is supervised by sixth year students from the local secondary school.  Does a member of the PTA/Parent Council have to be present in the hall during the sessions?  I find they are less intimidated if I am out of the room!

A:

3* and 4* Membership includes Public Liability Insurance for clubs and groups.  There is no stipulation that a PTA member has to be present during such activities but you need to have child protection procedures in place to make sure the club is a safe place for both participating children and the 6th years.  You can use our Child Protection Policy template.
